Google have taken Google Reader out of the shadows and added it to the small list of items it promotes at the top of the
Gmail interface.
The reader system has changed quite dramatically over the last few months, not all the changes have been appreciated, but Google obviously feel Reader is ready for a wider audience. It's still part of Google labs ("which means it's just getting onto its feet, you should expect it to be a bit wobbly, and your feedback can help us get it up and running") but I would imagine it would get general "beta" release soon.
I've been using Reader for quite some time, and it has become my feed reader of choice. For those of you dipping your toes into the world of RSS feeds and propagated content it's an easy no nonsense interface to get to grips with.
